Liberty Systems Delivers Nitrogen Generator for Koch Pipeline Company

January 26, 2016

Koch Pipeline owns and operates oil and gas pipeline systems.. When they needed a nitrogen generator for their oil terminal in Southwest, TX they turned to the experts at Liberty Systems. With our experience in designing and developing nitrogen generation systems, Koch was confident that we would be able to handle the challenges of this project, getting the job done, and getting it done right.

Collaborating with several engineering firms, we worked to meet the precise specifications required for this project. In order to meet the nitrogen needs of this exact oil terminal, we needed to develop a large membrane based nitrogen generator for blanketing crude oil tanks at the terminal. The final system was made up of two Kaeser oil injected screw air compressors (200 and 250 HP), that work in tandem, to produce air required to feed the nitrogen plant. Air separation and membranes were installed into a 10’ x 20’ shipping container. The mobility of the system enables easy transport to other facilities, while allowing us to better manage the interior climate for appropriate air separation.

The blanketing system developed for this project improved safety at the oil terminal and continues the Koch Pipeline mission to make safety a top priority. The transportation of crude oil, refined petroleum products, natural gas, and chemicals requires serious attention to safety for employees, surrounding communities, and the environment. Koch Pipeline has been the recipient of the Distinguished Award for Outstanding Safety and Environmental Performance from the American Petroleum Institute in 2011 and 2012; the highest award for large pipeline operators, presented by the American Petroleum Institute (API). The project also earned API’s Environmental Performance Award for three consecutive years: 2011, 2012 and 2013.
